The past few days have been incredible! The first two of Esther School’s VBS was a success. Emma, one of the high schoolers on the trip, and I are group leaders for the second graders. Even though I am still working on all the names, I have fallen in love with the kids and the heart behind the Esther School. There is something so simple and pure to their culture and actions. |
Although there is a slight language barrier, it doesn’t feel like it when the kids come up beside you and slip their little hand into yours. Even on the second day of school, I was welcomed by the children running up to give me a hug before I even reached the school building. As I spent time with the children, I began to see their view on life and God. It was so beautiful to experience the way they listened intently to what the teachers had to say, how played together on the playground, and the sound of their voices as they sang praises to the Lord. |
I love the simplicity of the children’s faith and lifestyle. There aren’t really any noises out here in the village of Nyangwena besides the ones of the people, nature, and roosters that seem to crow all day long.
Life here seems so simple and more of a community. When the evening starts to come, our team would tend to play a game of volleyball or spike ball. After sports, we would gather around the table for dinner on the back porch. I don’t think a person can truly appreciate and experience the simple things in life until we are away from everything. |
