This weekend was filled with many adventures! We sent Friday and Saturday at Chaminuka Lodge with delicious foods, clean bug free houses, and a very relaxing recreational area. The morning of our safari, I woke up to see the sunrise peeking over the horizon and through the window. We had the most incredible view from our balcony overlooking the African savanna. The trees, lake, and sky were all painted orange and red. As the sun rose, it seemed as though all the animals were rising as well. WE could hear the lions, elephants and other animals not too far from where we stood. |
After breakfast, we all jumped into the SUV and set off to start our safari adventure. We first saw the moe dangerous animals like lions, cheetahs, and hyenas, in drenched in areas; then we went to explore the rest of the savanna to see the giraffes, wildebeests, antelopes, impalas, elephants, ostriches, and zebras.
As you can see I wasn't too sure how to feel about the cheetah kisses.
After lunch relaxing at the lodge for the afternoon, we headed back to the village. We arrived as the sun was setting and found some children playing their version of a basketball game. We played with them until the sun was almost gone and everyone had to go home for dinner.
Sunday was just as much as an adventure. After breakfast, we all walked down to go to a little church in the village. There is something mesmerizing when the people sing here. It might be the way the voices sing are sung in unison or the beat of the drums echo throughout the room, either way it sounded beautiful. As tradition at the end of the service, everyone forms a circle outside the church as they exit the building shaking each person’s hand. The whole experience was simply amazing.
Later that day, we headed into the city. Our first stop was at an orphanage where we helped with babies under the age of three. Afterwards, we went to the art market that was filled with beautiful tapestries and wooden animals. It was quite interesting trying to barter. At one of booth, a guy invited us to take a look at some of his art, and I ended up playing a round of Zambian chess with him. |
All in all the day was a grand experience and the trip was successful.
